Daniel Schneider is heading the Embedded Systems Quality Assurance (ESQ) Department at Fraunhofer IESE. He was and is member and manager of numerous publicly as well as industry funded R&D projects. He is author and co-author of about 50 conference, journal and magazine publications, many of which focusing on engineering safety critical systems.

Engineering safety critical systems is likewise the main focus of the ESQ department. Areas of competence and topics of interest are:
- Model-based safety engineering (check out our safeTbox tool)
- Modular Certification
- Safety of highly automated and autonomous systems (including safety of AI-based behaviors)
- Runtime Certification in open adaptive systems / systems of systems
- Safety-Security Co-Engineering
